Another quiet pub, somewhat off the beaten tourist path. There were more locals here though and they seemed friendly enough and interested in my pub crawl of York! Leeds Pale Ale, Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Ossett Yorkshire Blonde & Roosters Yankee were the ales. Cider was Old Rosie.

Never had a problem with the clientele on my four or so visits. 5 cask ales, impeccably kept. Not worth a detour for, but worth popping in if it's your local.

Somewhere in here is a really good pub trying to get out. My return visit on early Saturday evening saw nearly all the punters sitting outside despite the showery weather. This could have been due to the character perched at the bar who once my presence was noticed immediately launched into a rant that sounded like a dress rehearsal for an English Defence League after dinner speech. Still, he was easily ignored by walking away and I managed to enjoy an acceptable pint of Rudgate Battleaxe. I think the Tap is worth persevering with.

Spacious pub with plenty of seating.
Popped in for a pint early on Friday evening and was not impressed with the characters at the bar making inappropriate remarks to female customers.

Very glad to report that this fine house has re-opened and is as good as ever. Still stocks Old Rosie real cider.
