user reviews of the Old Inn, Gairloch

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Pleasant bar although agree about the intrusive tv. Found staff to be attentive and friendly. Inhouse brew was "Mike's Mild" - not to my tast but seemed in good nick. My pint of Tradewinds not in best condition but drinkable. However, end of barrel reached soon afterwards and next one on was Crofters Pale. Barman aware I had taken one of the last pints and, without prompting, poured a Crofters for me without charge, despite the fact that I had nearly finished the TW. He'll go far! (And I shall return.)

Three ales on. all home produced I think and none of them to our tastes so that was a disappointment. Seemed to be run by and for Mancuinans and dominated by televisions.

Disappointed by range of beer, not least as on first visit only found the bar when searching for the loos. Only 3 cask ales on, not 'up to 8 in summer' as promoted in GBG though they were in good condition. They were (again) An Teallach, Trade Winds and this time Blavin. Real problem is the place is run for staff; off shift staff block the bar counter, on duty staff hardly look away from wide screen tv even when using the till (who says men can't multi-task!) and the the 3 tv screens were showing staff choice (though most punters were trying quite hard to ignore the them). We must have chosen food badly but were not impressed, the beef in the pie was tasty and tender but the veg was meagre and cooked to buggery. Finally staff clear tables as a last resort (>1.5 hours for the big table outside, ie more was stacked up when we left than when we arrived) and NEVER clean food leftovers off tables. Place needs a good clean. Poor Old Inn

Agree mostly with previous vistor; lovely old pub with a good selection of real ales. The food looked good and reasonably priced but 92 for Bed & Breakfast! In a pub?

Old highland inn used by locals, hikers and staying guests. There are two bars, a small snug like one with only keg taps serving Tennents, Stella, Fosters, Belhaven, Boddingtons and Strongbow; and a larger one down the passage. The bigger bar is used for eating and drinking and has the bar counter with seven handpumps and a fair number of tables with seating mainly on pew like, but comfortable, benches. Ales on sale during my visit were local Cairncorm Trade Winds, An Teallach Ale, Isle of Skye Bland Piper and a Moorhouses Black Cat straying some way from its Lancashire home. All were in good condition but the Trade Winds was the real star of the evening. The bar is a mix of exposed stone and wood panels with a flagstone floor, local art work and there are wall mounted TVs. There is also a formal restaurant within the inn which shares its staff with the bar giving rise to the usual difficulties this system causes. Food is of good quality and incorporates local seafood and game.
