The first time my boyfriend and I went into this place the bartender chewed our head off for turning off a very loud television! We were trying to have a conversation while listening to the trivia answers. Later, when I ask for a shot the barmaid said, "I don't do shots here. I don't want more of your kind coming in here, we don't want more young people coming in here and wrecking the place." I gasped but tried not to let it ruin my night. I am 42 years old! Not some reckless college student! After this we still stayed only because we ran into some friends that were there. After this terrible welcome I did not want to return. Low and behold I found myself back at this place a second time a month later. It started off ok, but the crowd really are very old, they are bitter people that have nothing else better to do than to gossip and make you feel unwelcome. Ok, you got it. We will never come back to this awful place with rude people again! Lisa4brit - 31 Mar 2012 15:47
This pub has a fine frontage and lies not far from Southport's main drag. The clientele are on the older side, but service was friendly. The small front bar opens up to a larger drinking area. There is also a small side bar, where we sat alone. Only Tetleys Cask Bitter & Dark Mild were available. A nice building, but could do with a better ale selection. blue_scrumpy - 18 Sep 2011 13:56
In there on Thursday, pretty dreadful really, unhappy looking barmaid with a hacking cough, stayed for one, and then looked for a flu jab!! poor. dazey - 30 Apr 2011 17:01
Walked in waited for the barmaid (landlady?) to serve us, she looked at us and continued to gossip with a regualr, we left, looked like a Tetleys house no actual clips on the pumps so unclear to what was available. burns20 - 9 Aug 2010 13:03
Visited here on New Years day, miserable cow, (not the Landlady we ascertained), behind the bar, clearly didn't want to be there and certainly didn't want to serve a non regular. There was only a clip showing Tetley Mild and I politely asked if that was the only cask beer on offer. "There's Bitter" she says with as much warmth as an iceberg, pointing to a non existent clip. It was ok but no more than that. Not worth the trek for us and no we won't be going back. MartynT - 3 Jan 2010 13:32
