user reviews of Red Cow, Sandwich

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Four beers on. I had the Old Dairy Blue Top. It was a pretty cold day and the beer rather matched the weather - as did the pub which though warm in its welcome was not that warm in the more prosaic temperature sense. No real complaints but I'll probably try a different pub next time I'm in Sandwich.

Having heard good things - well-kept local ales - my esteemed colleague in imbibing and I sallied forth to the Red Cow in that barren period between Christmas and New Year. In all honesty, no local ales were on offer, but what little standard fare on offer at the bar was perfectly acceptable if not very exciting. The atmosphere, notwithstanding some ghastly football match being screened, was warm and enticing - well, anywhere would have been so bitter was the weather. Sandwich is a delightful place and this is clearly one of its better pubs, if, on the evidence of my visit, not its best. I will return soon to make further judgement.

Haven't been here for the best part of a decade. That's how frequently I emerge in Sandwich. Still, it was pretty much as I had left it; a pleasingly well-preserved traditional beamed interior, plenty of space to lounge in, and well-kept beer, which is something of a surprise as the bulk of punters seemed to be wholly focused on the footie and were your classic lager-swillers. Still, it was good to see that locals were using the pub and enjoying what it offers. This place doesn't quite live up to its exterior, but it's nevertheless worth popping in for a pint or two if you're in the vicinity.

lovely pub that caters well to the tourists (me) and local alike.

Five pumps with a couple of not so common beers on - Loddon and Gadds.
