Reasonable small pub but expensive. £3.30 for a pint of Earlybird.

Small but pleasant. Good range of beers and tidy food. Could be described as a village pub in the city. Recommended.

Old school English pub that is off the main road. No music so a good place to talk and not be crushed.

Not a bad little place (little being the operative word) that I popped into on a whim during my crawl.

The Shepherds Neame beers were fine - 3 in total I think which is unsurprising given the small size of the place and its 'off the beaten track' quality.

The interior, as noted elsewhere, was clean and orderly, with a slant towards the Victorian in terms of nik-naks and furniture.

In contrast to other reviewers, I found it relatively busy (although I was in there at the fag-end of a Friday lunchtime) so getting a seat was tough!

Not a bad place, worth a stop if passing but it's hard to get too excited by it.

This is a Shepherd Neame pub, with the usual range on offer – plus a porter, which you don’t see everywhere. The service was fine. A not unpleasant, although unusual, smell of coffee pervaded the pub. It doesn’t seem to have changed since JohnBonser’s review over 18 months ago. I also found this pub to be smart and clean, but rather characterless, and more like a wine bar or hotel bar than a pub. I have no gripe with the place; it does do some decent beer after all. It’s just that I prefer somewhere a little less clinical. But don’t let me put you off - I have been to many worse places in the City.

Clean and functional Sheps pub not too far from The Still and Star and Aldgate Bus Station. I found the White Swan to be disappointingly bland with a typical sameness ( burgundy and cream walls, mixture of sofas and wooden bar stools, polished floor, chalk board menu etc ) that one associates with chain pubs. As the previous contributor correctly says, the pub lacks atmosphere. My pint of Spitfire (£ 3.00 ) was spot on, but I can't see myself doing this one again.

Try the Still and Star instead if it's a proper pub with a bit of character and atmosphere that you're after
