This pub is a little tricky to find. I ended up doing a circuit before finally finding the fairly cramped and busy car park. The pub has a number of different rooms and dispenses a couple of ales. Today there was Hooky & Side Pocket For A Toad. A Towcester Mill brew was coming soon. Service was friendly and a number of other tables appeared to have just finished their lunches during my visit. Certainly the best of the first few pubs I visited. But there were better to come later.

Visited mid-afternoon on a very cold but sunny January day. The snug was delightful with a log fire and sofas. A great place to read the Sunday papers. Friendly service -- we didn't eat but the beer was well-kept. Hinton-in-the-Hedges is well off the beaten track and the village is pleasant to wander round. There isn't much parking at the pub -- we parked 50 yards away opposite the village green.

Just a teeny bit disappointed here. The Crewe Arms has a good reputation for food and beer locally. I tried going in at lunchtime on a Saturday, and it was closed until the evening which says a lot about the decline of rural pubs.

Not to be beaten, I returned in the evening to a friendly atmosphere and a busy pub full of diners. Of the 3 pumps, 1 was Hooky and the others where Silverstone (Pit Stop and Pole Position I think). It's great news that the pub supports the locaI brewery - they're badged locALE by CAMERA, and I had the Pole Position. Nothing wrong with the beer, but not interesting enough to stay for a second.

I visited this pub with my husband two weeks ago for lunch and it was great! We enjoyed a drink in the bar first and then went through to the pretty dining area. I chose mussels in a garlic and wine sauce to start and they were sublime! The sauce was delicious. Hubby had whitebait which he said were very good - and plentiful.

For the main course we chose steak and kidney pudding (hubby) and pork in a mustard sauce. Both dishes were served with new potatoes and vegetables. We were too full for dessert.

Staff were friendly, atmosphere was welcoming and we will certainly be going back!
