| From the outside it is quite a plain pub and nothing remarkable at all. However, once inside you are greeted by a good selection of real ales plus a fantastic wine list and great food. The decor is simple but with bags of atmosphere. Always busy and need to book if one requires a table for dinner. Upmarket clientele; Oldboots' review is pretty accurate. wobblylegs - 8 Jul 2009 20:13 |
| Pretty much a restaurant that sells beer, although listed in the Good Beer Guide it would not be so vulgar as to display the GBG sticker in the window. Three handpumps serving York Guzzler, Timothy Taylor's Best Bitter and Jennings Bitter all in reasonable condition, a small range of undistinguished kegs and of course lots of wine. There are a few bar stools for casual drinkers but the single room is largely furnished with chairs and tables set for dining, some tables have comfortable bench seating, all have candles. The room is decorated in brown and white, brown furniture and wood panelling with rough plastered white walls. Lots of mirrors giving an impression of space. The staff and the food are excellent, the food is not cheap pub fare but is good value for money. Customers are a generally well heeled lot as you may expect but at times includes a number of villagers. Overall a comfortable and civilised place with a friendly atmosphere but not a village pub. anonymous - 13 Jun 2009 15:25 |
