| The last visit, on a weekday evening, was not a success. The pub is one of many that likes to promote its 'real ale' character but the majority of the clientele seem to drink lager so the condition of the beer is not a priority. This was borne out on that evening, when both the IPA and guest ale were very poor. Years ago, this building was three pubs next to one another. The Old Punch House was run by a very eccentric landlord, Norman Dare. But that's another story. The_Music_Man - 18 Nov 2011 17:32 |
| I really like this pub, it has a good atmosphere, good beers and the menu is value for money aswell. It has a nice smoking area for those who need it and they do regular themed nights such as live music. The only thing i dont like about the pub is the branded feel you get when walking in which is large posters everywhere and rolled cutlery. It is worth popping in for a pint if passing through. | Refurbished Greene King pub which is rather larger inside than it looks from the street. Fairly anonymous modern furniture, but traces of the old layout mean that there are several different seating areas (with one at a lower level) which provides a modicum of character. There is also a reasonably-sized patio beer garden out back. Two handpumps and one of those fancy IPA new dispensers (and for the first time I actually asked whether I wanted my beer served in the 'South' or 'North' style) which produced a decent pint at £2.50 (served 'South' of course). rpadam - 14 Aug 2010 10:41 |
