| Visited this pub yesterday and sampled a lovely pint of York Brew Guzzler... it was lovely and it was in a proper pint glass !! A very trad pub split into 2 rooms, with a central bar. There were 3 other local ales on sale at the time... a friendly place in "tasty" area of Doncaster... to get to this pub you have pass The Railway and The Leopard, both of which have cask ales... This has a large(ish) beer/smoking area at the back and an outside bar for the beer festivals that take place... bumped into a few Spurs fans who were up to watch Scunthorpe play.... there were some friendly locals.... well worth a visit if your traveling by train....its 5 mins walk away... | Busy after the Rovers football match and deservedly so. Nice range of mostly local ales, and a friendly ambience. I recognised the landlord from an earlier visit; he informed me that he has run this pub for the last 4 years, but has now given up the Railway round the corner. Recent visits to the Leopard have disappointed after many years of former satisfaction, so I'll be walking a little further from the station more regularly in future. | Back again (football was concelled due to a flurry of snow!!). Enjoy Geeve's Brewery ales from Barnsley - a new brewery to me. Pleasant barmaid and a good little boozer well worth a visit and handy for the trains. mcroyal - 6 Feb 2012 14:14 |
| Nice enough pub, tucked away in a side street but near to both the town centre and train station. It was quiet on our visit, but the four Christmas Ales certainly gave us a decent choice. I felt the pub however was a little bit 'run down' The place just needs a lick of paint, whilst turning the heating up a little would have helped. I believe this has recently been voted Doncaster Camra pub of the year for 2011, perhaps this is a fair reflection, but to gain that accolade, I expected something better. | Yet another great little pub to visit when going the football in the Doncaster area. Decent ale and a warm welcome... ls11seadog - 27 Nov 2011 12:38 |
