user reviews of Alpine Gasthof, Rochdale

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Recently taken over by new managers who are trying hard with the food : ) had a meal there tonight with my family and they were very friendly and welcoming and the food was excellent value for money. Will go there again soon.

Large pub with a carvery restaurant attached at the back. It was designed to look like an Alpine Gasthof in the 70s by the well known mountain brewery Sam Smiths from the alpine region of Tadcaster. I have no idea whose loopy idea that was! The main part of the pub is one large room with banquette seating and dining tables. There is also a further room upstairs but this is rarely used these days as the pub simply isnt busy enough. It used to be very busy until Sams upped the price of the lease by a stupid amount and the successful landlord, Alan, left (what a good move that was). Its had several tenants/managers since then and the first ones in took out the handpumps, another good move. So we are left with a quiet, keg only pub, with a carvery that doesnt get full either. Its still a decent enough place but we only visit occasionally. Why would we want to go more often?
