user reviews of Boars Head, Middlewich

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is by far and away the best pub in Middlewich for beer and for pub ambience. It felt more like a pub than the other places and the pint of Black Beauty went down nicely. They also had Unicorn on.

This pub served us a disgusting lunchtime meal today - November 2 2010. Please please whatever you do don't order food here unless you are prepared to accept total rubbish. No care, no interest, no thought. The lady behind the bar had no clue about the items on the menu, although she was pleasant and made an effort socially. We ordered three meals - (1) 'hotpot' which turned out to be a plate of unidentifiable bits swimming in a plate of tasteless gravy, it was left uneaten after one spoonful (2) a pork chop so tough we could barely cut it and (3) 'traditional steak pie and veg' - the pie was full of fat and gristle and the vegetables were utterly boring frozen peas and were stone cold. Two of the meals came with chips which were really really horrible, cold and tasteless. Everything was served on single plates - remember school meals?

What is it with you people in Cheshire? How come this pub got 7/10 on this website? Absolutely revolting food.

There was one real ale on the bar - Robinsons? - which was good. The pub had no lemon for the soft drinks we ordered. A number of lightbulbs were broken and nobody had bothered to replace them. The gents' stank. A horrible, wretched experience.

Large comfortable Robinson's pub in the "Manchester" style. Separate bar and lounge and a third room out the back. Only bitter and one other Robbie's beer on handpump.
