user reviews of the Red Lion, Parkgate

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Good traditional GBG listed pub which offers typical pub food and good Cask Marque beers at reasonable prices. Tetleys Cask was £3.15, Courage Best £3.17 and a rather nice Brimstage Oystercatcher a mere £2.99. There were two small TVs by the bar showing the rugby but these were well separated from the tables. Some might have said that the food service was a little slow but it was Saturday lunchtime. Perfectly welcoming staff so I suspect that the unfriendliness experienced by a reviewer a few years ago has long since vanished.

Spotlessly clean traditional old pub at the heart of Parkgate prom. Well kept national beers and a gem of a garden at the back. Recommended.

Nice, atmospheric pub, but sadly experienced very slow food service at a time when it wasn't at all busy.

Very much a "locals" pub which manages to make visitors feel a little uncomfortable, not in an aggressive way, more like you've just walked into "their" pub. I was ignored by a young barmaid at the bar on my last visit, even though I was standing with a 10 note in my hand, next to the person who she had just served!! The guy behind the bar (who I assume was the manager) had to point my presence out to the barmaid.
The pub does have a lovely beer garden which is at the back of the premises and up some stairs - it's a shame it isn't really advertised because it's a real bonus.
The only other good thing the pub has going for it is it's location - right on Parkgate front with views of the Welsh hills opposite.
