Theakston's best bitter went down a treat on a recent visit. Had a bit of a problem with the old tummy and was a mite put out to find there wasn't a lock on the gent's lavatory door. Where I come from this is against the law. Anyway it didn't spoil my visit but a little bolt only costs ten bob in old money so why such parsimony? Good beer, crap toilets. shouldersarms - 18 Dec 2011 18:37
Very small cramped interior. Basic selection of ales.Bombadier was ok. covman45 - 30 Oct 2011 11:57
Once inside this is a veritable treasure of pub memorabilia. Like many Liverpool real pubs, you could be back in the forties or fifties. Wonderful ale, cider and what-have-you. Not sure it would suit young trendies but there's plenty more on offer for them elsewhere. shouldersarms - 26 Apr 2011 11:36
A wine bar style refurb to the frontage hides this old style bar with an small area behind it. Very old school with a number of (mainly mainstream) ales on. Had a pleasant enough pint of Pedigree here. Snarling_Mallard - 22 Dec 2010 14:28
| Cosy 'local in the city' that is out of place in the concrete jungle of Liverpool's main shopping area- it's similar to the Globe in this respect. It's recently been refurbished, and I can't say I like the outside too much now although the inside has remianed basically the same, apart from a bit of sprucing up in the front room with a new wooden floor etc. The back room is the real draw, net curtains and very small and convivial, you can't help but get talking to somebody. The 6 real ales are from the usual suspects- Theakstons, Directors, Bombardier etc,. but Theakston's Mild is available. This isn't one of Liverpool's must visit pubs but it isn't half bad either.
