user reviews of the King Henry, Bramley

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

on a recent saturday evening visit, I found the re-furbed king henry quite confusing. the building is a double fronted tudor style design, with a large car park to rear, and outside seating at the front.
***
however the inside is a peculiar mix of olde worlde and modern. there is an ornate bar, with unusual wood carvings around the bar and mirrored back panel, old fashioned lighting and 1920s painted wrought iron bannister.
this is mixed with a modern open plan layout, split level floors, sofa seating, numerous plasma tvs for sport, music, a pool table in one corner and a rowing boat on one of the ceilings! to one side there is small a restaurant area [the "vasco da gama"].
***
the menu is a shocker with mains range around 16-35!
that said, the meals consist of one or two whole chickens and
the like. I'm assuming they're supposed to be in the eating style of henry VIII.
***
the keg j.smiths is 2/pint. no cask ales, although they're advertised outside.
***
verdict:
whilst on the face of it an old style pub, its really a modern one with an expensive menu. As there is no cask ales, and as I can eat just down the road 2-for-1 at the Sir Jack, I probably won't be calling again.
a 5 from me.
