A cosy and spacious pub on the old a30.

My only real complaint was the price , £4.30 for a pint of Jail ale seemed a bit steep.

7/10

Just in case anyone is thinking of visiting when it reopens, the indicator on the map is incorrect, showing a positon far to the east on the A303. In fact as BobOs states, it is infact 2 miles west of Honiton. Dont go by the map

The problem in getting landlords to stay here for very long was the repairing lease and enormous thatched roof which has needed to be replaced for many years.

As I write this the roof is being rethatched which is a significant investment and Bettesworths are inviting offers for the lease, mind you the turnover estimate at 480,000pa is a joke. I don't think they did that in 3 years!!

This old coaching inn has been around for ever. In Doomsday book even. Pity that the last managers ran it into the ground. Hanging is too good for the likes of those who are hollowing out all the English countryside's institutions for the sake of faceless corporates in sterile towers in god-awful conurbations.

CLOSED and this time it looks to be for good as the place is rapidly falling to pieces
