An unchanged pub with very freindly locals and decent ale (the Weetwood brew I tried was good) - can see that stepping back in to a 1956 episode of the Archers wouldn't be to everyone's taste though.

An unspoilt gem. No concession to anything but beer- no music, no fruit machines, no food other than snacks and crisps. But good beer, well kept, and friendly, unpretentious customers and staff.

Outside toilet (boasting nesting swallows in the summer), bowling green, garden.... and beer at 1990s prices!

Deservedly on the CAMRA register of unspoilt pubs- see it now while you can.

The Travellers Rest was our last pub and our favourite of our day in Cheshire. After so many of the pubs we visited focussing on food, it was a great relief to find only the 3rd pub out of the 10 to focus on beer. This roadside pub is a gem, with a moreorless untouched and a friendly welcome. The opening times are a little restricted. But if you can get to visit, you're sure to be rewarded with engaging conversation with either the owners or other customers. There were no other customers on our visit. But the owner was extremely friendly and chatty. There are 4 rooms. The 2 we saw were both very small. There is no music, TVs or games machines, just a simple and relaxed drinking environment. As John Bonser says, the toilets are outside (both ladies and gents). They're certainly rudimentary, but add to the charm. Two of the three handpulls were clipped on our visit with Tetleys and Weetwood Eastgate Ale. Pubs like this are a rarety these days. Long may they continue, as they offer a valuable insight into how pubs used to be and how I believe they should be. Worth a visit, if you ever find yourself on the A51 or anywhere nearby.

Splendidly unspoilt and old fashioned basic brick-built pub situated a few miles outside Nantwich on the busy A51 road to Chester.

The four rooms in this friendly, family owned free house feature some ceiling beams, fixed bench seating and some unusual wicker seating. Notably the four rooms are located in 2 separate parts of the pub, accessed through different external doors. There's the seemingly compulsory outside toilets.

There's no fruit machines or music here - in this pub that is reminiscent of a different era, beer and conversation rule the roost.

The pub is listed in CAMRA's National Inventory of Unspoilt Interiors.

Another notable feature is a splendid bowling green behind the pub and, on my recent early evening visit, local players were arriving to practice in preparation for a league match the following day. Parking outside at the front of the pub was becoming difficult due to the volume of cars arriving and I noted that very few of the bowls players seemed to be using the pub.

Beers on were Weetwood Cheshire Cat and Eastgate, together with Tetleys Bitter, which, the friendly landlord told me, were now the regular offerings. The Cheshire Cat was in good form and, at 2.25p, noticeably cheaper than I had paid in Nantwich earlier.

The pub is a CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular and is well worth a visit if you like pubs of this nature. Do note, however, that it doesn't do weekday lunchtimes and do take care when exiting the car parking area back on to the main road as the traffic can be deceptively fast.

Definitely like a trip back in time. Most country pubs stopped beng like this long ago and put an emphasis on food, but not here. this is definitely a drinkers pub. 3 real ales available frm local breweries, Cheshire Cat was as good as ever. The myriad of rooms, with two completely separate parts of the pub and decor can't have changed in 50 years, and the clientele is mostly local and male, yet a friendly atmosphere prevails. The toilets are a must! Darts and other games are played. Deservedly on CAMRA's National Inventory of pub interiors, it is a must for those who seek a true traditional pub experience.
