Excellent pub in useful location/part of town. Young lady on duty was warm & local girl, without any affectation. Beer price approximately 60% usual in mid afternoon. Will use from now on. Recommendation initially from my, London-based, son. TGB - 13 Jan 2012 14:37
Only PROPER PUB on the wirral: local cask ale, friendly helpful staff, clean and tidy, lovely pictures of old wirral on the walls, the brass and copper shines in this place, you can tell they care. We deserve more pubs like this. where else can you get 6 local ales, a cask cider, aswell as 18 belgian/trappist beers, and a range of spirits from moonshine to louis XIII?! Can't beat it in my eyes, well done The Cock and Pullet! shudnobetter - 4 Jan 2012 01:16
Am happy to reveal that the cider pump was very much in existence on our visit last night. However sadly the lines were being cleaned, meaning the Westons Traditional Scrumpy was off. Ales were Liverpool Organic Cascade, Thwaites Wainwright, Blakemere Bobby Dazzler, Brimstage Rhode Island Red and the house beer (I believe from Phoenix) Cock & Pullet Golden Ale. Not a bad pub and sounds like a big improvement on its days as the Royal. But I left feeling a little disappointed. blue_scrumpy - 22 Dec 2011 17:30

Good quality upgrade of what was a rather knackered old John Smith's pub, retaining it's public bar. Local beers in good nick, friendly landlord and sensible pricing all add up to a must visit establishment - a much needed freehouse for the area and an escape from the lunacy of £4 a pint at the Oxton Bar & Second Mortgage founddrunkinyourgarden - 2 Feb 2011 17:08
