Visited in March 2012. Has changed hands recently and was really nice. Warm welcome, friendly staff, good attentive service. Varied and interesting menu by their new chef and food was really good and well presented. Will be visiting here again.

Visited this pub restaurant with my wife on 10.07.2010. The first thing that struck us on entering, apart from all the untidy mess of loose papers and fliers at the doorway was the fact that we were ignored by two members of staff standing behind the bar. Instead of the " licensee" telling us " with you in a moment" he breezed past, head down and went about clearing tables.

The other person behind the bar it turned out was a new member of staff, and it has to be said he was the only one of those we saw who actually had any form of manners or customer skills.

The place looks like it seats 50 or so people, and having asked the " new barman" for a table, he said he'd have to ask- there were about 8 people in!

The licensee then spoke to the barman as if we weren't there, " if they want they can wait"- we were a metre from him!!

With a table wiped down by use of one of the FIVE used cleaning cloths on the bar top( 3 cleaning sprays there too), we were seated.

Now for the food- I cannot say that it was the worst I've ever had, it wasn't - but it was absolutely not a " meal out"

After we both ate a prawn cocktail where the prawns were still warm for the defrost setting on the microwave we were served " Homemade Lasagne and Aberdeen Angus Burger."

The Lasagne was 4/10, dry, small and with oily chips and a sad salad and the Burger was 4/10 with exactly the same accompaniments and a Burger bun that would have cost 35p for a pack of six.

The next course was brought to us by a waitress who when asked " are any of the deserts home made?, replied " I'm not sure" followed by a 30 second pause.

When prompted she returned and said " No but they are all nice" The Aunt Bessie style Apple and pear pie was ok, like an Aunt Bessie's is, 7/10.

During all this we overheard another table ask for a liquor coffee to be told the " only liquor we have is Tia Maria"

Those five customers left having paid and the " licensee " standing 1 metre from the exit door NEVER even looked up at them as they left, no thanks very much or goodbye, nothing.

By this time my wife and I had been finding the whole place hilarious, from the staff member wandering about shouting " just one more day, just one more day" to the one about to place my wife's desert in front of her before pausing to listen, desert in mid air, to someone else's conversation at the bar, before shouting " Hiya Mum".

Having paid 27+ for the experience, we left passing the " licensee" who was busy reading some of the many papers strewn alongside the bar top. Again, he did not even look up, let alone thank us for our custom.

This whole place could have been so much better, the rooms and gardens could be made first class should someone have some drive, management and hosting skills.

All in all, not a place I will return to, more so for the ignorance and indifference of the staff as much as the food, which was also, at best average.
