user reviews of the Grafton Arms, Manchester

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Has been refurbished recently and looks a lot smarter but still has a bounce feel to it. Doesn't sell that many ales and they're all Holts but they're okay, a better selection of keg beer including the 3 main lagers, Holts smooth and Holts black (which are both quite pleasant in my opinion). One of the rooms has a pool table and darts. Being a Holts house the prices are quite reasonable. Bar staff have always been nice enough and there are some characterful locals. If you fancied a crawl along Oxford Road then this should be included.

Crikey. This Holt's place was like a mausoleum when I popped in for a couple. Looked a bit dodgy to be honest, which doesn't really bother me but it did the chap who accompanied me. The beer was good and well priced and the staff were polite and efficient. I do however find it disturbing but amusing that the pub is situated right outside an A&E department.

I suppose if you have a heart attack after 30 pints or get your head kicked in it's handy.

Aah the Grafton!

In many ways a pub that the Twilight Zone forgot about. Resolutely working class with a drab and dark interior, you almost expect too see Ena Sharples behind the bar, curlers and all. Usual range of Holts beers at still reasonable prices, although a pub you would not wish to inhabit for any length of time.

Ho hum!

Great for gigs at the university as nowhere near as busy or crowded as some of the other pubs plus it's cheap.
Can be a bit intimidating to the newcomer and is certainly a regulars pub but we're always made to feel very welcome and a visit has become part of the pre-concert ritual now

Typical large two room Holts pub. OK if you like that sort of thing.
