| The saxon hotel is on the main road running through kiveton. It is quite an imposing, white-fronted building, sitting a-top a set of steps. It has a large car park, and outdoor seating for smokers on the patio at the top of the steps. *** inside, there are two bars serving a large lounge which has a black, beamed ceiling with red painted panels[?], and an unusually large games room, which accomodates seating, a pool table, and also a full-size snooker table! *** There were two barmaids, one smiled one did't. most of the keg beers and lagers were sam smiths. when I enquired as to the availability of sam smiths old brewery "cask" bitter, she looked puzzled and should her head in a "we don't do cask here" fashion. a shame, as sam smiths cask is quite tasty and noteably cheap. I didn't see any ads or menus for meals. didn't ask. *** there were about a dozen customers in the lounge saturday night. Many sat alone, staring at incoming customers, or the wall. I have to admit there was a certain Royston Vasey feel about it. [those who watched "league of gentlemen" will know what I mean]. *** verdict: I like sam smiths, but no cask here so no points.
