Went here for a family celebratory meal not too long ago.

Previous two reviewers have got it bang on, it's an eatery more than a traditional villlage pub.

Our meal and the service were both excellent, but dear oh dear, only one beer on! Robinsons at that and not very inspiring. They may be tied to that particular brewery but a choice is surely not too much to ask.

Was a little surprised at the extremely high ratings for this pub on a beer site. The good things first - it's very attractively done out and comfortable, especially the little tap room with a real fireplace, books and board games. Staff were all extremely helpful and friendly.

However, it's almost entirely set up for sit-down eating rather than casual snacking or drinking. All tables bar one or two high ones near the front are reserved for dining (and the Friday we were there, booked solid all night). Furthermore, they only had two rather anaemic Robinsons ales on, with the rest of the bar given over to uninspiring mass-market lager. The food was decent and well-presented, but not exceptional for the price.

I can't blame them for the approach they've taken and they are clearly doing a roaring trade. But I'd say that you can get better nearby (especially beer-wise) if you're willing to head out to the smaller villages.

Highly recommended. Friendly staff and the food was of a very high standard.

Had lunch at this pub whilst visiting the Peak District last week and it was excellent. The welcome was warm and friendly, food was excellent and beautifully presented. Definitely recommend it. It has been newly refurbished and looks great too. A trip up the road to see the view at Monsal Head is wonderful too....

There is a new young team at the White Lion (and it is NOT a hotel!) Just renovated, new landlords, two excellent chefs AND reseaonable prices - definitely worth a visit.
