user reviews of the Dog Inn, Harvington

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A typical Marston's eatery where every table is pre-laid with cutlery and there is no
real bar area. 2 for 1 reigns here. Pedigree, Old Empire and Boondoggle available. Not my sort of place but it was very popular.

Having abandoned the dog for a while, after dwindling portions and being fed up with waiting to get served at the bar we returned to try it once again. We won't be going back.

Waited 20 minutes to buy a drink, again only one member of staff serving drinks even though the pub seems to employ dozens of people to deliver food and collect plates. Then we ordered out meal, after another long wait for 'the host'. It seems as well as one barman the pub also now only has one person to take orders as well. We were told there was a 30 minute wait when we ordered. An hour and ten minutes later our food arrived, well, some of it, one order was wrong and one of our group had to wait a further 15 minutes. But the waiting wasn't over, when it came time to leave we asked for the bill, the obviously overworked host told us she'd be with us in 30 seconds. About ten minutes later the bill arrived.

The food might be cheap on their 2 for 1 offer and for the money it was okay value. But we spent most of our night either queuing for a drink or else wondering if our food was ever going to arrive which isn't why you go out. It doesn't take a genius to see the place needs more staff.

Have had several meals in the Dog Inn over recent weeks. Food is always of a good standard. The two meals for 10 offer makes the food good value for money though if your party is of an odd number one person will be paying over the odds for what they get.

Service staff are always friendly and there are genrally 2 or 3 real ales on tap.

Only thing I would say is the bar is often understaffed during busy periods which can be a little frustrating.

A 2 for 1 eatery but a cut above the rest ( also a little more expensive). Pedigree, Marston Wicked Witch, and Jennings Swan Lake ales on offer.Very busy on an early Thursday evening with diners. Worth a visit.
