| Not as good an experience as our last visit - almost empty; misogynist local braggart sounding off at the bar close to our allocated table; a pint of Pitchfork Double Header priced at a whopping £4.30 (TT Landlord £3.90 and Ringwood Razorback £3.60) and pretty ordinary food. | It was a toss up between the Bear in Stratford and the Boars Head for our pub of the day. The Boars Head is more of a pub and had a better atmosphere. But I think the Bear is slightly better for its better ale range. I was hoping to try a local Church Farm beer here. But there were none on. The choice was still good - Timothy Taylor Landlord, Church End Hop Gun, Ringwood Best Bitter, Sharps Doom Bar & Banks's Howling Wolf. The pub itself has two rooms. A large room at the front and a smaller bar at the rear. It offers takeaway food, including donner kebabs! | Has been CAMRA's Warwickshire Pub of the Year and the quality of the beer was evident today. Warwickshire Beer Company's Berry Nice Beer, Vale Brewery's Black Swan & also their Special, Old Pie Factory's Pale Ale and Church End Grave Digger's Ale were available today at £3 per pint and all were excellent. | It's always nice to be able to eat in the bar of a pub and not some fancy restaurant. Clearly food is a big thing here but you can have anything in the evening from baguettes to steaks to ploughmans. I had the large scampi and chips, my wife - the salmon as usual - a truly chunky piece as well, and my daughter the bacon bagutte with a welcome side salad. Nice choice of real ales - can't remember the names but well kept. Didn't hang about as friday night was obviously locals night but a proper village pub this one. Liked it.
