I read the previous comments on this pub so decided to trek over from Winchester. When we arrived the pub had a sign on the door - "Closed for Refurbishment Until Further Notice".......I take it the '£9 a pint to dog haters' didn't catch on then??!! Looks like another pub that may be consigned to the history books. Can't rate it, 'cause I couldn't get in!!!! lol !!!! pubcritic61 - 17 Jan 2011 08:59
Lovely pub, welcomes dogs, great food, excellent hosts. Suggested improvement: new sign saying "Dog Haters - beer is £9 a pint to you". Wigginsbottom - 4 Nov 2010 22:40
We had a great evening here, met up with relations in the UK. The hosts were very attentive and friendly. the food, lamb skanks, and the misic, trad Irish was pleasant to listen to. I would recommend this pub, what we as colonials would call an "English" pub to all that visit nearby. We will certainly go back when we next visit the UK turuhi - 4 Nov 2010 20:36
This is such a charasmatic pub with some fine real ales. I myself am a fan of real ale. I live closer to The Boot in Houghton, but I class O'Gaunts as my local. I don't know if they clean their lines more or something but the beer definately tastes better. Bar staff are very friendly and they always know what I'm going to order, and usually have it waiting for me by the time I've left my chair and walked to the bar! supergalley - 4 Nov 2010 20:27
Had to post this in response to some of the negative comments I've read here. The pub is a traditional country pub, with real food and real ale. It is a cosy place and the landlady always makes you feel welcome. It's a great place for a break if you are on the Test Way - especially if you have a dog with you, dogs are always welcome. If you want a genuine traditional country pub then this is for you. ramblingrose - 4 Nov 2010 18:06
