user reviews of the Fat Ox, Tenterden

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We were coming back from Hastings (to Margate) on Sunday and looking for somewhere for lunch. We had missed several pubs because we had passed them before we realised, and in the end was glad we did. We pulled onto the small car park at the front of the pub (next time will park round the side) and went in. Greeted by the chef and his wife, asked if we would like to see the Sunday menu. We said yes and ordered 2 roast lamb dinners.

We had our drinks and after a little while the wife brought in a little dish of mint sauce, a large dish of 5 vegetables, then a dish of piping hot cauliflower cheese (as was the veg); lastly came the two plates which looked full already - Yorkshire pud, roast potatoes, a medley of new pots, bacon and leeks (and maybe other things), and a hugh amount of beautifully cooked lamb. Everything was hot and beautifully cooked. We didn't have room for a pud.

Another customer who sat on a table near us said we could have had a doggie bag, which the chef supplies if you require it. The couple apparently have only been in a few weeks, and we do hope they make a success of it. We shall certainly go back for a meal, even though it is quite a way, but it's worth thhe journey.

I didn't give it full marks as one of the toilet seats in the ladies needed attention and one of the tables was apparently reserved, but no note had been put on it - but give them time and I am sure these things will be attended to.

Well worth a visit on Sunday for lunch. Daily menu looked good but can't speak of the items there.
