Was looking forward to finally visiting this pub but it was shut at Half two on a Saturday afternoon. This means I cant really pass judgement other than to say it should open all day at the weekend. juwwi - 7 Jan 2012 20:06
Good ale and food here and ideally on route for the Chilterns footpath network. Nice find for mid-way on a 13 mile Chiltern hike. mim - 23 Aug 2010 14:46
One of plenty of similar country pubs in what is a really nice area for a summer evening's tour. 3 real ales were available - St Austell Tinners, Rebellion Blonde and Well's Bombardier. Unfortunately the pub's entry in the last Good Cider Guide is now out-of-date. No real cider available here. blue_scrumpy - 12 Aug 2009 20:42
This pub has been extended since I was last here some years ago. Very food oriented with the varied menu going through gradual, though continual, change. The very large French-born landlady had to descend to the cellar to put on a new barrel for my very good pint of IPA, so not the greatest start for her at a busy time. But it got worse... she had to descend a second time to change the barrel for my mate's selection..! By the time she'd finished pulling that one through, she'd been 15mins in the serving process and seemed a touch p*ssed off..! Ah well... that's the pub game for you..! Once she'd cleared her customer back-log, she was back to take our food order. Having earlier had sight of the chef, who gave all the impression of being a bit 'spaced-out' on something, we wondered about the quality of our food. Completely unfounded... the food and presentation was superb and served in very comfortable restaurant surroundings. Prices may be a touch above-average for this area, but good value, without a doubt..! Well worth a visit, especially if a cellar descent is involved..! Glenco - 26 May 2008 14:06
