I am new to the area and am enjoying trying out local pubs, although I can say that I enjoyed this one. The Hooky tried was cloudy and off and when I spoke to the barman ( I think possibly the landlord ?) he actually tried to tell me it was how it should be. I did not bother with any food after this as just wanted to leave. It was a shame as it looks a nice village pub from the outside. Jamie james67 - 29 Oct 2010 19:35
Not very impressed. Although I never tried either, I would love to know what makes both the 'Avon burger and 'Avon bbq ribs' "famous". Famous in Avon Dassett maybe but not coming from these parts but not too far away, I had never heard of their so called famous dishes. The pate was certainly not made on the premises (although they never claimed it was, but on the Christmas Menu it does say "our chefs pride themselves on preparing fresh, wholesome, home cooked foods...") and was the bland rubbery type that you know is just bought in, cheap with no quality. On the plus side, the Timothy Taylor was well kept and enjoyable. Overall, expensive poor quality food but good beer. squonk1 - 2 Oct 2008 22:51
Sammy and Steve are fantastic - offering an amazing welcome. Attention to detail is excellent and customer care is high. Environment is very warm, with a lovely open fire and loads of character! Great in the summer too as the village is really beautiful. Great for walkers, families, people wanting a quiet drink and also fab entertainment available. Food is A1 - traditional, local produce. Best home made pies ever! 64 ways to eat pie is fun and roaring success! AmandaJane - 23 Apr 2008 16:29
