New landlord as of January and runs it with his wife, never met the gentleman mentioned in the comment below. To be honest the refit is typical 1970s front room and doesn’t fit well with the exterior of this wonderful pub, beers are well kept even if the range is somewhat limited, been in a few times lately once on new years and had a nice relaxed drink the regulars are friendly and the landlord on our second visit was very helpful and a nice bloke, good pub but let down by the décor.

At 28 years old, this is the worst pub i have ever been too in my life. I have never been ridiculed or confronted with aggression in a pub. What amazed me about my experience in the Eagles Vault last night, was that the person taunting me was the barman! Despite visiting with my girlfriend and a few friends, the barman openly taunted me over the bar to the amusement of his skin head regulars about my sexuality, implying that i was gay and somehow making eyes at him (in quite an aggressive 'your not welcome here way'. I am not gay, but it really isn't the point. If this is the prejudice gay people encounter then its an eye opener. The reason for his attack I have no idea, aside from perhaps ordering a pint for me and coke for my pregnant girlfriend. If friends hadn't already paid up for their drinks i would of walked straight out.

So if you want to be drinking in what feels like a BNP rally with a brain-dead barman, this is your place.

If not, avoid like the plague and hopefully it won't be long before this place closes down (again).

went into this pub a few weeks ago, has now reopened after a refit, to be honest the refit could have been a little more imaginative, but the outside and original features of the pub are amazing, the beers banks and the bar man was really friendly and i think hailed from wolverhampton, he even gave us a quiz he had thought up himself, no prizes just for fun and we really enjoyed having a laugh with him about some of the answers, a good traditional pub with a really friendly bar man

Visited this pub at 1pm on a Wednesday .Just 4 customers who did not stay. Both doors in the bar wide open causing an arctic blast. This Marstons pub after a lengthy closure and refit ,that looks incredible cheap and nasty, is up for let.
Banks Bitter and Pedigree on tap. This traditional small pub needs a licencee to inject some character into it, and as a pub it deserves to survive.

Looked in the window 3 days ago and it appears the refurb is almost complete. No sign of an opening date yet.
