| Good food for the price, plentiful car parking ~2 miles of the A303 Podimore roundabout, and set in lovely countryside. Free house with a preponderance of Butcombe ales. | Excellent country pub with a warm, friendly welcome and excellent waiter service. Well kept ales; London Pride, Butcombe Bitter and Butcombe Rare Breed. The menu is quite extensive, the portions generous and the value very good. Millions of extra Brownie points for the wonderful hand-cut chips - it seems most places aren't able to cook a decent chip these days, but these were exceptionally good. Other Brownie points awarded for linen napkins, sauces in individual dishes (not those dreadful sachets!) and salt and pepper in grinders. �35 for scampi and gammon meals, two separate side salads, two pints and two large glasses of wine = excellent value.
