I quite liked this, but felt there was a lot of room for improvement. As others have said, it's off the beaten track from central NW3 so escapes a lot of the young rich that populate a lot of the bars in that area. The clientele seemed mixed to me, and I felt the pub had a nice friendly atmosphere. I liked the interior of the pub a lot and particularly the bar, which looked to be original. Ale-wise it was a bit dull: just London Pride and GK IPA - the IPA was well-served but room for improvement here. The quiz (oddly timed at about 7pm on a Sunday) was good, but poorly attended.

Agree with Strongers - not a chav pub, but definitely a locals pub. I live local and have been in here dozens of times, but i'm still made to feel outside the gang.

This pub could be really good - it's attractive, ambient and well located. But it lacks something - laughter, noise, decent beer…

Needs a younger crowd, or at least for the regulars to stop acting so morose.

The best pub in this area, thankfully free of braying Nathan Barleys. A friendly landlady (from Derbyshire) and nice dogs roaming about the place. And the best beer garden in the whole of London.

Good pub, this.

In contrast to Strongers I find the service here very good. He's right about the dogs and their habits though, even if I don't find it annoying.

Slightly off the beaten track compared to the others around Pond Street, and as such seems to escape being filled with annoying people (ie: the Garden Gate).

The Stag has a large beer garden out the back which is good in the summer, but I wouldn’t bother going in any other time.

The pub dog has a habit of standing by the garden door and barking until someone lets it out and then coming back 30 seconds later and barking until someone lets it in. The dog also has a habit of begging for food from people that have ordered it from the bar….. Extremely annoying.

The last time I was in there I ordered a Stella and a Fosters and was served 2 Fosters. When I complained I was told that I was wrong and that it was a Stella. I gave the Fosters away and ordered another Stella, which I saw being pulled from the Stella pump….. It was Fosters again! I told the barmaid and got a reaction of ‘what do you want me to do about it’.

In my experience it is not the friendliest of pubs to none regulars, but it is not full of chavs.
