Went to this pub for a midweek lunch. Myself and partner both had steaks, which were good. However, the portions were a let down. There were not enough chips, and the quality left a bit to be desired. Only 2 mushrooms and 2 onion rings each, were also on the small side. We felt for the portion size both our meals were very overpriced. (£11.95 and £15.95). Also felt the homemade banoffee pie was a let down too much cream and pastry. The dining room lacked atmosphere, and not much space between the tables. However, on a good note the staff were very welcoming and friendly. hasland - 26 Apr 2012 16:27
Good beer, great food (Only had a ploughmans but it was excellent) staff were great - no complaints apart from its not within walking distance of my house. Bernie5 - 28 Mar 2012 18:00
I can agree with earlier reviews. The ale is superbly kept, the tasting notes are detailed and useful. The food is of a really good standard for traditional English fayre , the portions are large and I can heartily recommend the steak, stout and pepper pie, I have not tasted a better pie. The chips are homemade, freshly cooked and delicious. The pub is beautiful in a traditional, unspoiled way, the staff are really friendly and helpful and children are welcome. If I had one criticism it would be that there aren't all that many tables for a group of 4 to eat in the main part of the pub. The restaurant room at the back is fine but does not have the same atmosphere. All-in-all highly recommended. thegiant - 4 Nov 2011 09:38
Excellent. Bit off the beaten track, so you may need a designated driver - but if you can find some poor sap willing to do that, its well worth a visit. A wide selection of ales (this place is now a CAMRA fave, I believe) with excellent tasting notes. They also specialise in ciders & perries. Take out is easy enough, and the staff were all incredibly pleasant when we visited. They were renovating the kitchen, so I can't comment on the standard of the grub, but the premises were nice enough. Hotfoot - 25 May 2011 10:59
Great pub. Eight or so fine ales to choose from with great variety and lots of local representatives. The cider choice is amazing, up to 15 drawn from the barrel. Also, the food is good pub grub and very reasonably priced. Good portion size too. Bit off the beaten track, but there is a bus from Chesterfield. twohalves - 7 May 2011 12:50
