A hidden gem. Good selection of ales, top draw food, friendly staff.

This pub is worth seeking out, as it has some of north London's best keep beers (an equal to the Bree Louise in quality if not quite in range). The Betty Stoggs from Cornish brewers Skinners was exceptional, putting what elsewhere would have been a great pick of the well kept Jennings Cumberland in the shade. Other beers included the more local Broodie's Sunshine.

There are three mid sized rooms which gives the place a nice homely feel, reinforced by the friendly bar staff and chef and the board games on the side. On Sundays at least children appear to allowed throughout – rather than any space being reserved in peace and quite for adults – although the kids seem to be permitted on the understanding this is a pub not a crèche for them to run round in. There are hearty roasts with a proper gravy (which is apparently slowly reduced over 3 days). The beef is presented as a single thick slab of full-flavoured, rich meat and a veggie option is available. On our last visit, we also tried the sticky pudding with caramel sauce which was much lighter than the description and all the better for it.

The food aside, this is a drinking establishment at heart and, as if the beer wasn't enough, it has an excellent range of over 20 whiskeys to prove it. CAMRA members currently get a discount on pints, and there's a membership scheme if you want to become a regular.

All in all, a very good pub for whiling away a few hours. I just wish it was my local!

Paid my first visit last week and can confirm previous comments, very freindly landlord, decent crowd, very good choice and quality of beer and nicely done out. Didn't try the food, but what I saw coming out of the kitchen looked very nice. Well worth a visit and I'll be back to try the food.

Friendly landlord who is obviously keen to succeed with good beer and food. Happy with the Skinners beers, Ferrymand Gold was also on offer alongside Fullers ESB and Banks.

Very modern and expensive looking interior but I would feel comfortable
spending an afternoon or evening here. A previous comment mentioned it could become the 'Wenlock' of N19, that it won't ever be and it doesn't need to . Certainly worth encouraging people to pay it a visit for a drink or three.

Went there for the launch of the ale & whisky bar , a great nite the beers 6 of them were superb , the house beers Skinners Betty Stogs and Fullers ESB with 4 guests ranging from Theakstons Mild to Nethergate Old Growler plus bitters from Skinners & Loddon. They were also serving Purity Pure Gold in the main bar.The barbecue was very good with excellant burgers .Tony and son did well behind the bar aided by a hot springbok .The whiskeys will have to wait till another day , i did notice a wonderful selection of malts and irish , but after ESB one cannot handle them . Prices are £2.90 a pint with a 40p discount for members , a welcome addition to the area . More people need to find this pub it could become the Wenlock of N19. A former Camra pub of the season highly commended by the two who know .
