| A largish group of us (c.8) tried this bar, but it was empty apart from us and frankly the staff seemed quite prickly and appeared to begrudge us being there let alone ordering drinks or - gosh! - food (to the point where we were making jokes about it!). Two members of staff were quite openly discussing another member of staff in a very negative way whilst contuning serving behind the bar, which didn't help give us a warm positive feeling about the place! Beer nice, food very overpriced and the depressing and bullish atmosphere reduces any positives this place might have had down to zero. Diddly - 27 May 2008 16:35 |
| Definately an hotel, this house is now mercifully bypassed by the A66 in good walking country. The Brignall banks along the river Greta are justly famous. The Dickens Bar keeps a good pint of Black Sheep and landlord.It has recently been revamped, and the slightly melancholy air of a few years ago is no more, but the food, both in the restaurant and bar is locally sourced, if rather on the pricey side. Nevertheless, we usually have a pleasant snack lunch when we are in the area. The first time we came, we were greeted by a lovely wheaten lurcher in the bar. wittenden - 11 Jan 2008 22:56 |
