visited the pub (again) with my wife on 8th October, early evening and had two meals from special menu....adnams battered cod and chips with salad etc excellent quality, delicious food, great service by sean and kelly(again) Decent beer, nice atmosphere. This pub deserves to be packed to the doors every night.

My wife and I visited this pub for one of their 'specials' on Thursday 23rd September 2010. I had the battered cod which was scrumptious, tasting fresh with gloriously light batter and madam had the steak and ale pie which was good, the contents of the pie, vegetables were lovely, the pie a little stodgy but perfectly acceptable. The beer which was an Adnams guest beer was excellent. The landlady and her husband were present, the service was very good and Kelly and Sean were perfect hosts throughout. They are both very likeable people and deserve to do well but it would appear they need more local support.

This pub has recently been taken over, and i really wasnt impressed. You wouldn't have known that the landlady was the landlady as she was eating at the bar wearing an outfit i wouldnt garden in !

My husband and I ordered the homemade steak and ale pie with chips and veg. We were asked if we would like side order of gravy with it .... which we turned down. Big mistake. I assumed the pie would have gravy inside it.

The pie turned up looking like a lump of pasty. Inside the totally encased pie was about 5 pieces of chewy meat. No gravy was in the pie and the pasty was inedible. Everything was so piping hot it really felt like it had been microwaved.

The chips were hard and the veg consisted of a bit of over done cabbage.

I then tried to order the lemon tart and then the apple crumble off the 'specials' board only for them to be sold out (we were the only people eating at the time, and it was about 7pm). So, i had the banana split. It consisted of a cut banana, two scoops of cheap ice cream and a wafer. Yours for 4.50 !!!

It really was terrible, and i wont be going back. The seating in the bar area was massively uncomfortable and it was a horrid waste of time and money.

I liked this place when these people took over. The policy seemed to be a couple of beers from small breweries and good, plain food.

Now it just seems to be one beer from one of the 'usual suspects', not always in the best condition, and a rather bizarre attempt to place the food upmarket, which doesn't really work in those surroundings.

I visit this pub on a fairly regular basis. It has a good pint of Wadsworths. The food is great value. It is homely and quirky. The landlord and lady are very likeable but strange in a friendy way, the staff humour them like adult children with their aged parents. You have the usual choice of the lounge or the public bar. Customers can eat in either but the later has the advantage of allowing dogs in.
