I was fortunate enough to find this pub open one summer evening a few years back. Watched some bat & trap, has a few pints of Guinness (it was that of Sheps muck) but was mostly nonplussed. Have attempted to visit since but it's always been closed.

Whenever I pass this pub it's always closed.

Popped in here for the first time for a pint last night. Like walking into my front room it was so bright. No music, no tv on(expecting the cricket or Aston Villa) and just two locals talking about the joys of thai massage and masturbation. Not exactly what I had in mind ! Only Masterbrew and Kents Best on, not a great choice for a Sheps pub, and £2.95 a pint to boot.
Swiftly downed, then walked down the hill to the Ship.
Willnot return.

Friendly and somewhat quaint this is a breath of fresh air compared to the modern pub. Nice open fire, friendly staff and comfortable armchairs if you fancy staying a while! Quiet whilst I was there but that didn't take away from the enjoyment.

It took me three years of living in Whitstable to finally visit this pub and it is a gem. Beer is fine, they have a lovely snug area and it is friendly. The sunken bar gives it a nice quirky feel. Definitely worth a visit if passing.
