user reviews of the Quayside, Whitstable

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Both my companion and I had to leave our drinks on my last visit. Very poor beer, poor standards and poor staff (esp the manager) in a characterless pub. Best avoided.

A pleasant change from the majority of pubs in Whitstable. Nice, bright clean bar that tried its best to accomadate my wife and baby during an exremely busy saturday. Will visit again when in Whitstable.

I think Roger B has been extremely kind in his review of this pub. Having spent many occasions supping in the various pubs in Whitstable i would have to say this is the dourest pub i have ever been in - so much so it has made me break the cardinal rule of ever posting comments on websites . So lets start with the most important part, the beers all those available, 2 when we were there were of poor quality. The food i avoided having seen what was on offer at lunch but i can not comment on its taste. The decor and surrounding inside was very dirty, finished plates stacked on tables alongside disregarded glasses left next to people sitting and eating. Outside in the "patio area" already described the same can be found albiet with the added luxury of a huge industral over splilling bin. Top this with a surly unpleasant landlord/manager who while we were there was abusive to boot and i would suggest you avoid this pub with a wide berth unless of course you enjoy being shouted at as a punter, sitting around other peoples leftovers and being deafened by the music.

Not one of the better pubs in Whitstable. As the name implies, it is situated near the harbour but don’t expect views of yachts bobbing up and down on the tide. This end of terrace cottage pub offers no sea views, just a main road and some industrial buildings. It has been extended over the years to cover 2 premises but the interior has been largely ripped out and lacks any character whatsoever. All the original features have been sacrificed for a fairly open plan shoebox of plainness. The cream walls, pine floor and plain ceiling do nothing to avert the attention and the large plain windows make the place far too bright. The 3 Ales (Adnams, Broadside and Pride when I was there) were of very poor quality on our visit and even though it was mid afternoon, the music was blaring out at an intolerable level. The food was largely seafood and if it was as bad as the beers is not worth the effort. It was also quite pricey. On the plus side it does have a small patio outside but with far more interesting pubs within a short walk, this is not a place that I would particularly recommend.
