Now part of a Best Western Hotel. No sign of any public bar so probably residents only.

A good pint of Adnams in a quiet, comfortable pub. Older than average clientele gave it a slightly sombre atmosphere btu I wouldn't mind comign back to eat some time. Nice porcelain.

A nice historic pub/hotel one of the oldest places in Colchester. Parts of the pub/hotel date back to the 14th Century. Two hand pumped ales are available 'Broadside' and their own branded 'R&C' Bitter which is really Adnams Best. Definitely the best real ale option in this area as previous reviewer points out.

We were here on Friday meeting two other couples before we went for a meal at the Thai Dragon. It seemed a nice place to take your partner to for a drink. Perhaps we will try the food next time we come.

Pity about typical hotel prices at the bar, otherwise I'd be in more often. Having said that, Tony the bar manager does a brilliant job and the lagers are always on form. As this part of Colchester suffers from a lack of pubs (the Goat and Boot and Clarendon being the nearest) this place does very well considering the aforementioned prices and a lack of smoking facilities. The food's a bit pricey, but from what I've seen it's not short on quality or portions. Certainly worth calling in if you're in this neck of the woods.
