Description
Shackology sits in what was a Young's pub called The Crown and Anchor. Indeed as it's a Grade II listed building the former names are tiled into the building. It's now a relaxed and friendly, modern pub open from 9am until 11pm. The food is simple and fresh, cooked in an open kitchen. Rotisserie chicken is one of our specialities. Wood burning stove, lots of sofas and plenty of room make it a good choice for meeting a group of friends. Live music on Saturday nights.

| "The Shack" closes this month, according to their website. The building didn't fit with their aspirations, which sounds very much like they weren't getting enough punters in. | As soon as I had walked into the Crown and anchor I thought “oh dear, this is no pub with the words ‘crown’ or ‘anchor’ in the name that I have ever encountered before”. It was only when I used this site to investigate further that I discovered that it is actually called Shackology, so everything is now clear. I waited for a couple of minutes to be served as it was very busy with me being the only customer and 5 staff milling about the bar obviously isn’t enough. When I was served it was only because one member of staff had delegated the serving of my half a Red Stripe to another. The pumps on the bar were Kirin Ichiban, Erdinger, Red Stripe and Bombadier. If I was the type to go out for a cup of coffee and read the morning papers, which I'm not, this is the type of place I would like, but it was nearly empty and Zizzi is just up the road and it was pretty busy.
