I quite like Brunning & Price pubs. This one has a location well above the Irish Sea in a well-heeled residential area. It was fairly busy on a Saturday lunchtime with most tables set out for diners. A small area close to the bar is for drinkers. Service was good. They also had a decent range of ales to match the Wetherspoons down in the town - Goddards Scrumdiggity, Timothy Taylor Boltmaker, Brunning & Price Original, Purple Moose Snowdonia Ale, Great Orme Great Welsh & Weetwood Mad Hatter. The real cider was Gwynt y Ddraig Farmhouse Scrumpy. Whilst the pub is mostly for diners (the food tends to be good in this chain, from my previous experiences), it's still a good option for ale drinkers.

Without a local guide we would never have found this pub, but once parked, found it well worth the effort. The interior is positively cavernous, but warmed by a large roaring fire. The choice of hand pulled ales is amazing, many from micro brewers. Foodwise the menu, which seems to change on a daily basis, is pitched at the higher end and is comprehensive enough to cater for most tastes. Pub grub it ain't! I thought I had bought a work of art. Portion sizes are well adequate, without being over generous. Despite the large number of diners, our food order arrived quickly, served by an attentive waitress, right first time. Plenty of staff, so also served quickly at the bar.
All in all a very pleasant evening, but as noted, don't attempt the climb on foot, as my local guide explained the pub name translates to "Top of the Hill".......I'd call it "Top of the Mountain"

Superb food and staff. Just don't walk to the pub as it's up one hell of a hill from Colwyn Bay!

Amazing gastro-pub hidden way up in the hills with fantastic views over the bay. Top quality real ales (including local brews), excellent wines and probably the best food in 30 miles. Not just pub grub, top quality local ingredients cooked by talented chefs. Worth a stop. I do wish it wasn't so out of the way!
