A pub owned by the Charles Wells brewery, which stocks their own portfolio including their Youngs beers. The place was very quiet, although a small group of locals tried their best to add something different - practicing their banjo skills in the rear room. The Eagle IPA was nice enough.

In here last Saturday and things have improved since the last post.
Now in the GBG I think.
Wells & Youngs ales only on sale

Nice old style pub (bar>lounge>pool room>garden)- awful beer though. The Eagle IPA was dreadful. Most defintiely my worse pint in the town. The missus had a fairly decent measure of Baileys though.

The left hand bar on entering is a drinker's delight: everything focussed on the bar, mostly standing room, regulars scattered about, super-friendly bar staff. The landlord Paul and wife Sue are always delighted to chat. This is a Charles Wells pub, but one guest ale is always on, together with Bombardier. Frequent events (e.g. Ampthill Pie Festival, May Day celebrations) and quiz Wednesday.

I have lived in Ampthill for over 20 years. I have seen this pub when it was under previous landlords. I now like it and I like to think of it as my local.
Nice small, older style, friendly staff and good beer.
