We were very pleasantly suprised at the change in this pub. We used to frequent it many years ago, when it was pretty much a spit and sawdust type of pub, but you had a decent jukebox, pool table and a dartboard ..Now, no pool table, but is a bright and welcoming place.. The landlord can be a bit OTT in his welcome at times I think, but that not always a bad thing I suppose. It has a very good jukebox, and the week we were there, there was live music on at the far end, very good too. They seem to have several daily regulars ( one or two seem to be in charge? ) but we went a few times and there was always a staedy stream of custom, for the beer and the very inviting food. Nice to see a bright, clean, thriving pub in these dark days. :-) JesseJackson - 21 Feb 2012 01:30 |
| Totally refurbished and totally changed. A very nice pub, good food, excellent real ale ( 3 pumps now!!!!) - even She Who Must Be Obeyed likes it. Friendly bar staff help it along a great deal as does the ale ( have I mentioned this). Deffo 9 out of 10 - lose one point for succumbing to the Black Sheep/Theakstons duopoly that pervades this part of North Yorkshire - or am I being too picky? projectedmayhem - 17 Apr 2011 11:30 |

| The newly refurbished Castle Tavern is a vastly different pub to what it used to be. It is now light, warm, clean and very welcoming. The beer is excellent and very reasonably priced. The home made food is superb and the prices are down to earth and affordable. The new hosts, Matt & Lisa ensure that your visit will be enjoyable. There is live music every other Saturday and so far the bands have been very good indeed. If you haven't yet visited this pub then do so, you will not regret it. Also it has one of the best juke boxes I have ever heard, all the top forty hits going back to the 50's. The Castle also boasts a real fire and has newly refurbished bed and breakfast rooms. In addition there is free wifi for those who need it. No Sky sports - but you can't have everything and to be fair this pub has everything else you could need. welshwizzard - 17 Feb 2011 10:33 |
