Applied for a strip pub licence but with over 500 local people petitioning against it, it didn't get it. What kind of place even applies for a strip pub licence though anyway? Doesn't get my vote, that's for sure.

this place is made of fail - never seems to get busy - spent a fortune doing it up, but location is all wrong - last i heard (via a poster in a local cafe) then owners have applied for a licence to allow strippers

This palce is always empty. Partly due to it former reputation as a lesbian pub, partly because of it's location, (it could do with being a bit further up the High St, but I guess The White Hart got that spot), and partly because it has been decorated in a swanky business style which would be more at home in The City about 5 years ago. Brown leather sofas facing each other so you conversation is about 12ft away from each other. Tall tables with stools that only take about 3 people. If they took the seating out and changed them to tradional pub tables and chairs this place would be alot more practical and sociable. The loos look like they would be more at home in a West End night club. The beer is quite good, and it does have some charm, but it's got the wrong vibe for the area. Too clean, clinical and swanky, not very relaxing.

This pub is open again under new management (i think). It's called Satchmo's and is now a bar/live Jazz venue. Redecorated inside - nice wooden floors and big brown sofas. Normal London prices. Friendly staff. Live Jazz in the basement. Not the normal sort of pub/bar for this street but a welcome addition as far as this local is concerned!
