Went in here before a gig at the academy as the other pubs in Brixton had just got too depressing.
I'm sad to say this wasn't any better. Essentially a small, featureless room with a bar, I waiting an age to get served as they'd run out of change only to be given a lukewarm Corona and told to pick my own slice of lime out of a bowl on the bar. Needless to say I went without.
My friend and I came to the conclusion that drinking inside the Academy was more preferable, at least the beer was cold.

We were at the "Backstage" bar prior to a gig at The Brixton Academy last week. I was a bit sus when all the taps had pint glasses over them. Turns out they were charging three quid for a 275ml bottle of Becks. That's six pounds a pint! Even the Academy's foamy dishwater, Carling is only about three pounds a pint.

It's true - I've seen fights in here a lot. Having said that, we last went in after a gig a couple of years ago and my mate left her phone there and the blokes who found it returned it. Which is exactly the opposite of what you'd expect from Brixton, very impressed.

Pub's dirty, overpriced, overcrowded, the beer's shit and it exploits a captive market. Ladies' toilets are disgusting. Only ever went in cos it was open late after a gig when everything else was shut but that was before the law changed so I doubt I'll go back.

No need to come here - if you are meeting up to go to the academy walk from stockwell and go to the Far Side or else go to the Beehive or Goose - they may be bad but at least they dont rip you off
