Despite the lack of proper beer, I quite like this pub. I've always found the bar staff very pleasant and helpful and the food is good if slightly slow to arrive. On match days they have a couple of hand pumped beers, but the rest of the time nothing. I have asked the manager to consider stocking a couple of bottles, but so far no progress. The only downside of this pub is that for me the music is just too loud in the daytime and early evening. They seem to think (wrongly) that music is a substitute for atmosphere. I prefere to be able to hear the people I have come to see - later in the evening turn it up by all means! Oolybel - 27 Aug 2008 13:31
The reason its easy to get a beer on match days is because its surely the worst pub in the area !! No real ale (not a good idea with thousands of rugby fans about) and the loudest 'music' making conversation virtually impossible. What a joke of a pub. Horrible bar staff too. nickthefish - 10 Jun 2008 13:45
I tend to go in here to get somethign to eat before going to see the Quins. The main reason being that it's one of the few pubs that's easy to get served on a match day. (Hey atmosphere is for the ground). Got to say that despite it being empty every time it's pretty good. The beer is good with a nice range. It serves a good range of burgers that are all decent. I've never known the atmospshere to pick up much though and I wouldn't really go here at night as it's a little pretentious. Does offer a differant idea to some of the other pubs in the area so that's pretty good. However the change in the silver tray thing really winds me up. This habit is tantamount to saying 'give me a tip' as you hand the change. I may give a tip or offer to buy bar staff a drink if I want not because they ask for it. Small point but gets my goat. theoneandonlyjoe - 29 Apr 2008 16:56
I went in here and asked for a packet of crisps and a pint. They don't sell crisps, so I asked if they had any other food and the barman tried to sell me a tiny bowl of olives for £4. Nuff said. stfc1 - 23 Apr 2008 12:59
i'm normal never write review but i have to say the grand union is the place we've been waiting for so long in twickenham. I booked a area last week end. the manager insisted for us to try the new platter they do and it was so good we ordered two more, it take them a bit of time to do it but it is worst it. I can't believe they are open until 2.30 in the morning on weekend and i found out they open until 1 on thursday as well. with no doubt the best bar in twickenham ever. martinintheevening - 8 Apr 2008 12:45
