More of a food place than a drinking den. I was in here last Saturday lunch time and they were fairly busy but I didn't have to wait long to be served. 4 hand pulls but a disapointing range of Directors (which was off), Prdegree. I tried the GK IPA @ £3.15 and then London Pride @ £3.45 just OK. bjbrummiejohn - 25 Jul 2011 07:37
The meal I had here recently was one of the very worst ever. The food is probably prepared early in the day and then kept warm. Gravy congealed. Meat like leather. Terrible! I did the British thing and said nothing. Mind you I have been telling everyone I know about the experience. Staff are nice but none look over 12 years old. Do yourself a favour and STAY AWAY! brucelee - 23 Jul 2010 12:40
I went here last Sunday for lunch with 4 other people. It's a Chef and Brewer but this fact is not advertised too much (I wonder why?) It was hot outside and the hotel was crammed. I was driving and so did not drink. My friend ordered a pint of Doombar which he said was reasonable. The food though was another matter. I order a beef roast lunch; the meat was tepid and tasteless and the vegetables were aldente to the point of not cooked. One of the party had the sea bass which they thought was okay. My wife had pasta which again, was okay. The meal for 5 came to £55.00 which I guess is pretty reasonable. However my gripe is that the menu is too big, they try and serve too many people, the food therefor at best is 'okay'. Why don't they concentrate on improving the food and charging more? Better ingredients and less 'tin-ting' (microwave) meals. Sure they could not giver a flying wotsit what I say as the place was heaving but I for one will not be returning. A pretty poor dining experience. revbrianlovecraftscott - 21 Jul 2010 13:50
Attened on A busy Saturday night. Got last empty small table by the Gents, which you can smell each time the door opens. Leffe on draught was a pleasant surprise. Food order taken quite quickly but seemed to take a while to come, but the dessert order took even longer so much so given a comp coffee as way of saying so sorry after asking its whereabouts. Then the member of staff that took our order went home making it in possible to pay the bill, thought about just walking out. Kid of a manager didnt seem in control and couldnt understand that his problems should not become mine.If you cant stand thr heat keep out of the kitchen.............oh he did largeone - 11 Oct 2008 22:49
| I wandered into here on my own when the place was very busy. Found one small table free, and was delighted when a member of staff came over and offered to take my food and drink orders so I wouldn't lose my table. The beer (TEA - very well kept - and they also have Bombadier and London Pride) and Sunday roast both arrived very quickly. The meat was tender and there were three veg and two types of potato included. Delicious - and not expensive. How they cope so well with such large numbers of customers beats me. Highly recommended.
