| After a saddening experience up the 'hill' at the Fox and Hounds for lunch, this was a refreshing welcome, at the end of our day's philosophical walking (http://www.flickr.com/photos/zorrodp/sets/72157620521962759/) Actually it was, because of the truncated lunch stop and an almost unique experience of the final solution (in customer service terms), only just after 3.00. An excellent pint of Harveys Sussex Bitter - so good that some of us stayed for one or two more; Bjorn's ploughmans was magnificent (the pickled onion particularly 'biting); and the first pickled egg I'd seen in years - yum! - and twiglets. A well-turned out and some modernised bar - a very friendly welcome to all dropping in (in strong contrast to up the road); a not too intrusive big screen with the tennis; some background music; but star quality for the graoning book case, and 2 Batsford books from the '60s - the Pubs of Kent and Surrey - and from the landlords collection also some curious metal 'cards' produced by Whitbread of inn signs ..... wonderful! zorrodp - 28 Jun 2009 08:22 |
| The Swan has been taken over yet again by new people at the end of 2007 and has undergone a slight revival. Food, not previously served at lunch, is now available. A small but experimental menu I think. Beer prices have reduced, yes that is reduced. The large tv screen has been removed and the new people are going to give it a a couple of years to turn round. It has great potential, on the main road with a garden and the only pub for some walking distance, it certainly should flourish. Bomardier, Larkins and Spitfire are the ales. | Pleasant enough, but nothing out of the ordinary. Friendly bar staff and good beer - but very expensive. earlydrinker - 23 Sep 2007 18:06 |
| My weekend local. A family run good honest bar. Spacious top bar and a cosy VIP lounge. Nice friendly licensees, staff and regulars. Quality live music at least once a month on weekends. Good garden for the kids. A clean ,safe and happy pub. aberdeen_al - 1 Dec 2006 12:44 |
