I've been a regular at this pub for several years, I knew Mel and there is no denying the fact he made the Globe into a great pub. I have to pass several other pubs to get to it but I most definately consider it as my local and have done for a long time.

I also happen to be the co-owner of GB Poker Club (but the username probably already gave that away).

The Globe is a great pub, always has been, it still serves more real ales than anywhere else remotely near by, still has the same great atmosphere and still encourages people to play all sorts of pub games, from backgammon to darts and cribbage.

As times move on so do the types of popular games people like to play, this doesn't suddenly make the Globe a larger drinkers pub. In fact in the two weeks we have been running poker at The Globe most of the players have been The Globes regulars, drinking their regular drinks be that a real ale, a larger or a coke!
There is no denying the popularity of the game of poker nor the popularity of The Globe it's self, so how can combining the two make it less of a real pub?

Come down and try it yourselves to see how much fun it is, every Wednesday at 7.30pm have a look at www.gbpokerclub.co.uk if you want more info.

I'm not here to argue with anyone and am just putting my opinion of this great pub forward for all to see. The fact I'm running a poker night there doesn't change my opinion or that fact that it will remain my local.

i'll keep it simple so whoever mark56 is he'll understand bless him. Stop guessin an get a life, take off the gimp mask an give it back to mistress mo !! Pity the pubs gone downhill, void of life, dead, empty NOT a patch on the place it used to be , sad but true. Now backstreet dross , shame but the truth hurts. Beer no better than average, blame it on the ex regulars if you want , there's a lot of them but cloudy beer speaks volumes and sometimes it tastes rank too !
