New owners have recently opened with regularly changing beer range. Summer lightning,Butts Barbus Barbus,Brains,Pure Gold Fuggle dee dum. Recent beer festival in garden with Pure Gold, excellent Sign of Spring Black Sheep amongst others. guinless - 13 Aug 2009 21:24
On previous visits to this place I'd not been impressed. Average gastropub, and not a surprise when it closed. Local paper down here reports that it will re-open Good Friday, under a new landlady. It will offer Black Sheep, Landlord, Adnams Broadside, Ringwood Best & Summer Lightning on cask, which sounds a bit more promising. In an age of pubs closing down I hope they make a success of this, it will be difficult as this place is a bit stuck out on a limb and won't get much walk-up trade. ChrisP87 - 5 Apr 2009 17:44
I used to visit here for the food and lovely atmosphere on the weekends, yet recent changes to the management and senior staff have resulted in slowly increasing food prices with in my opinion "a slow decrease in the food quality and friendliness of the staff" therefore meaning I no longer visit. For those with money exotic wines and spirits can be found here although it is slowly moving away from encouraging a drinking atmosphere by concentrating its efforts on publicising the restaurant. anonymous - 10 Dec 2006 21:14
Good selection of beer including Summer Lightning. Pleasant garden and three 'themed rooms' inside. Food served is average but *very* expensive. Bottled beer prices are a complete rip-off e.g. They charge £2.95 for 1/3 pint of gold label barley wine. Half a mile away in Romsey center the Abbey Hotel charge £1.80 for the same drink (as of July 2006). alan0659 - 6 Jul 2006 21:39
