Attended function with about 25 people. Food good but not all as expected, e.g. sticky toffee pudding was simply treacle pud, apple crumble was not crumbly, more like a pie or pudding. Roast dinner, soup and pate all very nice, but at £18.95 + 10% for 3 courses it ought to be. Coffee turned out to be included in price, but this was unclear until bill arrived, so we missed out, although they had run out of decaff anyway. Would have had tea if known price was included at time of ordering. Ale was OK (Doombar) though a bit pricey. No disabled toilet found. arthur256 - 10 Dec 2011 23:12
Continues to serve the locals in half the bar area with the rest being an eatery...Guinness now £3.50, Courage Best, Broadside and Doombar the real ales on offer. Staff range from very good to OK but sometimes you wonder why your waiting when there's two or three bodies out and about fluffing table cloths and napkins. Thevicar - 18 Feb 2011 17:01
Went here over the Christmas holiday-first visit for many years-not impressed-over half the pub is an over the top dining area with poncy linen tablecloths and napkins. Beer mediocre and service poor-the barmaid disappeared despite my holding up a tenner and clearly awaiting service-ominous notices about CCTV and drug dealing-has this been a problem in sleepy Thorpe? huntforbeer - 10 Jan 2011 13:02
Some improvements since the last visit with the gents getting a make over. Resturant doing a good trade. Thevicar - 6 Oct 2009 13:07
Been a while since I clossed the threshold... A few locals still using (keeping the PUB going). Food ticking over. A couple of very nice ladies serving. Beer on the expensive side and inconsistant ( seems to be a norm in this area...) It looks sad, is sad, perhaps it ought to be renamed The Sad Lion??? Thevicar - 9 Aug 2009 01:13
