user reviews of the Greyhound, Derby

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Greyhound hotel on village st is a great community pub it offers lots.
Now with three real ales on the go bass, pedigree and guest they are a fine example how real ales should be BUT due to popularity they run out very fast and they are cask's as you can't get nitro-keg beer for hand pull beers.
They serve food everyday 2 for £10 and 2 for £5 which are very reasonable meals and generous and i believe they were in a magazines called "This is Derbyshire" in the hidden places column for there meals.
my experience in this pub was very relaxed and friendly atmosphere

Ignore both the previous reviews because the writers have confused the Greyhound on Friargate in Derby with this Greyhound on Village Street, in the Derby suburb of Old Normanton.

The Friargate Greyhound (currently closed and boarded up) is on the fringe of Derby’s student quarter, hence the reference to students in the reviews. The Village Street Greyhound is a friendly estate type pub built in the late 1920’s and I guess that most of the customers are locals.

The real ale choice is limited to Bass, which is pretty good; otherwise it is nitro-keg. A selection of pub food is served at lunchtime with a carvery on Sunday and seems popular and good value for money.

To avoid any confusion in the future (if the other Greyhound re-opens), I have uploaded a photo of the Village Street Greyhound …

It's a run of the mill pub, more for the student in you than anything else. You can collar a pint in here before heading further into town, but don't expect anything mind blowing...

Lovely pub. Very student oriented, despite the outer appearances. Friendly, laid back staff, dirt cheap drinks, good music. Guitar Hero Sundays are good fun.

If you're one of the nicer, more relaxed variety of students in Derby, who prefer to avoid Blue Bamboo and Red, then check out this pub.
